Nice to hear from you Matt,
So to answer questions: I will graduate in August with a accredited degree, but will be the last class to do so. Kyla and I are on the Island for the summer, she's working at Prima Bistro and I'm working at the new brewery in Langley, which is a lot of fun as well as writing copy for ClearVoice still.
I've run into SOOO many people playing Pokemon Go. It's way fun. I don't have that much time to play it, but when I have got time it greats. Ben likes to make fun of me for playing, but I showed him how it worked last night and he was pretty excited about it as we had to go down this old dirt road to fine a Pokestop that's in the middle of nowhere on Whidbey. Don't think he'll play--I think he'd be too self conscious, but who knows. I'm trying to figure out how to catch a Ghastly, but they usually are only around at night and I try to go to bed around 11. I almost got a electabuzz the other day, which is my favorite, so I'm bumbed it got away.
Some people may think it's lame, but I've run into gamers, just in Langley and around the island who said they've been walking 5-6-10 miles a day when they have time, just to play pokemon, and it's helping them lead a more active lifestyle. I think that's pretty awesome.
Kyla and I will move down to Oly in mid September. Very excited. I've been in contact with some professors there at Evergreen to do some assistant teaching, and hopefully something will grow out of that.
I read Slade House, but wasn't thrilled with it. David Mitchell is really fantastic structurally and character wise, but when he slides into the fantastical, I feel he loses the best parts of his writing as he tries to world build and explain how things work. I just finished my friend Yi Shun's book--it was fun, but I wouldn't say I'm the demographic for it. Now I'm diving into The Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley. It's nice having met him and drank a beer together to finally get to his books and be enjoying it. It's definitely got some tropey Fntasy stuff in there, but sometimes you just got to fantasy and enjoy it--yes I just used the word fantasy as a verb.
Kyla and I got a kitten a couple weeks ago, he's a real cutie, but sometimes a total nut--like right now, he's just running all over the place. His name is Wellington and for the most part he's well behaved.
Having finished my thesis I've been participating in The Summer Writing Project, which is a writing competition through Jukepop.com and the publisher 1888 Center. The way it works is that you post a serialized novella on the Jukepop website and through votes and reads you get a ranking. I made it to the top 25, which feels great, and so was interviewed as part of a podcast called The How The Why. While the process is basically a form of digital self publication, it's a great community that allows you to get immediate feedback of your writing. My novella is up on Jukepop if you have time: The Night Sputnik Flew, also my novel in progress is being posted up there as well, I try to post a chapter once a week, on Wednesdays, but it hasn't really gotten much attention yet--which is fine. MODED. I know you probably have better things to do--but who knows.
Once you're back come visit us in Oly. We can go to campus and catch all the pokemon in the world. Or something like that.
I hope your mom had fun in So. Kor. It's pretty beautiful once you get out of the cities. What are you reading these days/playing? I dabble in Guild Wars 2 here and there (still) when I don't feel like going outside.
Brendan said you post a bunch of pics on Facebook with a girl. Is this a GF of yours or are you just friends? Give me all the juicy details.
